One of the coolest things that I’ve ever experienced during my time here is the opportunity to communicate with important people.

What do you do at your job?

I am currently working as Talent Acquisition Intern at Vidio. Vidio is an Indonesia-based Over-the-Top (OTT) video streaming service which contents consist of free-to-air and subscription channels, live streaming, films and dramas, and television. As a Talent Acquisition Intern, I carry out an end-to-end recruitment process at my company, specifically for internship and entry-level positions. My day-to-day responsibilities include sourcing potential candidates meet the requirements needed, arranging interview schedules, conducting HR and user interviews, reference checking, as well as offering selected candidates. I also help manage administrative HR tasks and handle multiple job fair events that my company attends. People my age can grasp my job if they’re familiar with the recruitment process.

What's your background?

I was born and raised in Jakarta. I went to Lab school and now I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Indonesia. Throughout my college years, I actively participate in volunteering, organizational, and internship programs, as well as various psychology-related competitions. Since a long time ago, I’ve always had a keen interest in Recruitment, thus I applied for the Talent Acquisition position at Vidio. The rest is history!

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Definitely yes! As long as they have a huge urge to learn, I reckon they can. They will need to catch up with a little bit of extra work, though -  I believe that background education plays a pivotal role in pursuing a career in Human resources. We usually prioritize candidates who pursued Psychology or Management for this position, mostly because both of those aforementioned majors teach us how to interact well with people, to conduct HR surveys, to find the right ways to probe and empathize with the employees. However, as long as they’re persistent and eager to learn, I believe they can nail the job well!

What do you think is the coolest thing about your job?

One of the coolest things that I’ve ever experienced during my time here is the opportunity to communicate with important people, such as VPs, Directors, or even CEOs – definitely an opportunity that I can’t simply just get anywhere. Although my day-to-day responsibilities revolve around sourcing, interviewing, and reference checking candidates, I always feel happy whenever the person whom I talk to shares their past experiences and major professional life events. I learn a lot from their stories.

What are the drawbacks of your job?

Sometimes, I need to work overtime to get my job done. Additionally, I need to be able to maintain a great focus while interacting with people, since it happens nonstop.

What suggestions you would like to give to yourself?

  1. You don’t need to be perfect to live on. We humans are prone to making mistakes, don’t be too hard on yourself - just learn from them!
  2. Don’t overthink too much, most of the things that you worry about turn out to be mere illusions That your mind makes, Even if almost none of them truly ever happened.
  3. If you believe in yourself and feel good about yourself, you’ll achieve so much more - because you have a lot of potential!
