Kennard Mahib Bariumanto

As a Product Management Intern, my central responsibility is to create products that meet the customers’ needs, be it in-app features, vouchers, and many more.

What do you do at your job?

I’ve been working as a Product Management Intern at Vidio for 5 months. Vidio is an Indonesia-based Over-the-Top (OTT) video streaming service whose contents consist of free-to-air and subscription channels, live streaming, films and dramas, and television. As a Product Management Intern, my central responsibility is to create products that meet the customers’ needs, be it in-app features, vouchers, and many more. My day-to-day responsibilities include creating Epic and Product Requirement documents, creating decks to present product profiles, jumping from one meeting to another (which takes 90% of my time), and brainstorming with the Product team. Generation Z can comprehend my job if they have prior knowledge about management.

What's your background?

I was born and raised in Jakarta. I went to Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, majoring in Information Systems - I chose the major because I want to try something very interesting, very new, and very different from other majors that my peers usually take. I spent my college years doing MUN, participating in competitions, and being involved in non-profit organizations. I am now also joining Vidio to fulfill my huge interest in the Film industry.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, it’s definitely possible! Especially, right now we have a lot of options to learn, namely the easy to access online classes on the internet. Basically, this job is literally about management, but particularly in “product”. If you’re a fast learner and have good strategic thinking skills, I think this job may suit you well

What are the drawbacks of your job?

Sometimes, we don’t have time to properly breathe. The schedule is very packed - back-to-back meetings can be physically draining at times. Not to mention that we need to handle administrative documents as well, with less time spared.

What suggestions you would like to give to yourself?

  1. Try everything - whatever it is, just give it a try! No matter if it brings risks or is not beneficial, you just have to try it. Only by then, you can truly understand what you truly like and don’t like.
  2. Always do good, to whoever, to whatever, with no judgment before getting to know them.
  3. Don’t let one or two mistakes define who you are. All of your mistakes are bound to happen - they serve as a lesson for your future self.
