Dimas Ali Singaperwata

We’re the closest person to the customers - in fact, we always interact with them through push notifications!

What do you do at your job?

I’m now working as a Product Marketing Intern at Vidio. Vidio is an Indonesia-based Over-the-Top (OTT) video streaming service whose contents consist of free-to-air and subscription channels, live streaming, films and dramas, and television.  As a Product Marketing Intern, I am responsible for maintaining engagement with Vidio customers. My day-to-day responsibilities include making push notifications in applications, sending marketing emails to our customers, creating gamification in the form of polling in our platform, and making description texts in Appstore and Playstore. Generation Z can understand my job because they’re always in touch with their smartphones.

What's your background?

I was born in Bekasi but grew up in a lot of other cities in Indonesia, such as Bandung and Jakarta. I moved from one city to another out of my own will, not because it was mandatory - I needed to challenge myself and try something new! I am now studying Agrotechnology in Universitas Padjadjaran. In college, I actively participate in AIESEC as a part of the Performance Marketing Team of AIESEC Indonesia. I also actively looked up internship opportunities, which finally brought me to Vidio.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, they definitely can! As long as they’re in touch with their smartphones, I suppose they would be able to do it. It would be better if they can catch up with the latest trends and have good writing and problem-solving skills.

What do you think is the coolest thing about your job?

We’re the closest person to the customers - in fact, we always interact with them through push notifications! Imagine how many push notifications that you get every day… and how many of them that you proceed to click and get directed to the application.

What are the drawbacks of your job?

Creating gamification in the platform can be tricky. Well, since I’m not into Indonesian soap operas, I sometimes run out of ideas about making polling or a quiz out of it. Sudden changes in schedule can also be tricky - I need to prepare for the polls or quizzes as soon as possible but have less time to prep up in advance.

What suggestions you would like to give yourself?

  1. Be eager to learn something new. We never know what’s gonna happen in the future - you may like or may not like the thing that you just learned, but it can be beneficial for your future decision-making.
  2. Be brave. Don’t let one failure destroy your confidence. Life still has a long way to go! You’re gonna encounter a lot of opportunities along the way.
  3. Don’t waste your time and energy worrying about unnecessary things. Invest more of your time to believe, learn, and grow instead.
